Man with cargo at trotro bus terminal

This man [partially visible left] waits to board a trotro bus with his cargo at Accra Central, Accra, Ghana. A trotro bus carries both cargo and passengers in the same compartment. The coach is therefore dual purpose. The type of luggage allowed are usually personal effects, small bags and dry cargo. Though these loads could be a source of inconvenience to passengers, its culturally offensive to criticize or complain about the merchandise because its interpreted as an affront to the owner's trade.

Labadi Osu Trotro Route, Accra

A section of the Labadi Osu trotro route.  This point is an intersection and links Teshie, Osu and 37. The trotro stops are located in front of the La Palm Beach Hotel [left] and across the street right.  This trotro route is very busy outbound in the morning because a lot of commuters are moving from Tema, Teshie and Nungua towards the inner city for work, business or trading.  The reverse traffic is rather sparse.

Landscaping for trotro commuters at Kwame Nkrumah Circle

Trotro passengers at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle interchange, Accra, Ghana are appreciative of the restoration of the lawns that greet them on arrival.  The lawn had always been green till over commercialization of the Circle turned it to bare grounds. After a month of growth the grass has become fluffy and pedestrians could not he but admire the regrowth. The greening of the Circle is in line with government efforts to make Accra an organic city - and no place would a good start than Kwame Nkrumah Circle which houses mobile phone shops and other electronic shops more than any other section of the city. In the background is the southern section of the Interchange that leads to and from Accra Central through Adabraka.

Sabon Zongo trotro route in Accra

The Sabon Zongo trotro route in Accra Ghana traverses Abossey Okai to the east, Ayigbe town to the west and then passes through Gaskia Cinema onwards to Damsoman or Latebiorkorshie. Its a busy route for trotro buses who connect to Russia and Mallam. This picture shows the Happy days stretch of a section of the road.

Trotro bypass route at Labone, Accra, Ghana

Trotro buses in Accra, Ghana hardly go through Labone, a suburb that lies to the south. However, during peak traffic, they may take a detour off the Ring East East to south Labone, transit Apapa and move on to Labadi, Nungua, Tema or 37. This photo shows one of the alternative routes. This routes leads from the Labone secondary school, through Ecobank, Apapa and then onwards to Labadi.

Rare alternate Nima Accra Trotro Route

This picture shows a rare Accra Ghana trotro route from the Central Business District to Nima and Maamobi. During intense traffic on the Kojo Thompson Road, from Tudu, South, to Kokomlemle, North East, trotro Drivers will make a smart detour at SSNIT Trust Towers near the Holy Spirit cathedral, Masai junction, head towards Star Life and then make a left turn towards Ring Road Central. In this picture, Comsys, an IT Firm, situates to the left, and Barclay Bank, to the right. Asylum Down and Ridge are among the few neighborhoods in Accra without trotro stations nor stops. Trotro buses do not actually ply these routes.
