The Arena Labadi trotro route has been closed this morning due to a fire outbreak at the Grand View Hotel, close to the Accra Children’s Hospital. The blaze has trapped lodgers at the two upper floors. Witnesses say the fire is intense in the corridors so people cant escape.
A combined team from the Ghana army, Police and the Fire Department are managing the situation. The Firemen have brought in fire trucks with ladders to reach the upper floors whilst the Soldiers and Police keep security. The hotel has some financial companies offices and luxury shops at the ground floor so security is required to prevent any intrusion. The presence of the forces will also prevent people who escaped the fire at the lower floors from possibly returning to pick belongings. The Police is actually controlling the crowd who have amassed to observe the blaze.
Trotro buses will now route along Zongo Lane, through Agoro Beso musical instruments shop to reach Akoto Lante and then make a left turn towards John Evans Atta Mills High Street, onwards to Labadi.
