Some drivers may have increased trotro fares in the city of Accra. They complain that the first bi-annual fare increment is long overdue whilst fuel prices keep increasing. Trotro fares will be increased soon.  Each year, the fares are reviewed upward twice to adjust for increase in fuel prices and inflation. Already fuel prices have been increased by 11%, making a upward review by the transport companies  imminent. Ghana private transport stakeholders including the GPRTU, Ministry of Transportation and the GRTCC have agreed to wait till next week before they decide on new trotro fares. The decision is to enable the group take into consideration new road toll prices which are reviewed periodically. The decision to increase was first prompted by an upward review in the prices of petroleum. In Ghana, the prices of fuel are not set by government but the state takes part in transport price negotiations because the Ministry of transpiration represents the public interest.

Trotro Union executives have just announced that they will hold a meeting with stakeholders tomorrow, Thursday, 7th January , 2016 to determine how much increment they would go for with regards to the recent fuel increase. They have stated that the decision to revise the trotro fares is not only dependent on fuel prices but then they take into consideration many other actors. The group has dismissed as false the rumor that trotro fares will be revised upward by 10%.
