Arena Labadi trotro route diverted

The Arena Labadi trotro route has been closed this morning due to a fire outbreak at the Grand View Hotel, close to the Accra Children’s Hospital. The blaze has trapped lodgers at the two upper floors. Witnesses say the fire is intense in the corridors so people cant escape.

A combined team from the Ghana army, Police and the Fire Department are managing the situation. The Firemen have brought in fire trucks with ladders to reach the upper floors whilst the Soldiers and Police keep security. The hotel has some financial companies offices and luxury shops at the ground floor so security is required to prevent any intrusion. The presence of the forces will also prevent people who escaped the fire at the lower floors from possibly returning to pick belongings. The Police is actually controlling the crowd who have amassed to observe the blaze.

Trotro buses will now route along Zongo Lane, through Agoro Beso musical instruments shop to reach Akoto Lante and then make a left turn towards John Evans Atta Mills High Street, onwards to Labadi.

A photo of the burning hotel appears above. Apologies to all who may have relations trapped inside.

Accra trotro route diverted – Kaneshie to Kanda

The Accra trotro route from Kaneohe to Kanda through the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange at circle has been diverted. Motorists from Kaneshie and Achimota will now have to head towards Accra and left turn at PTC – Global Access junction, and then make a leftward turn again towards the Interchange. At the Osu Klottey sub metro office, they will then pass right towards Obra Spot and onwards to Kanda.

The temporary close is to allow the contractors Queiroz Galvão to begin asphalting the West – East roads around the interchange.

With this situation, Accra trotro passengers from Kaneshie and Achimota who wanted to alight at Obra spot will now make a longer semi circular trip of about 5 minutes.

We bring you pictures.

The bus approaching from Wireless veered into the right pavement, sinking the right front tire into the drain. Accra Circle interchange trotro station has been evacuated. The arc structure is part of the new clover leaf highway from Osu to Accra Central.

The Kwame Nkrumah interchange trotro station at Circle has been evacuated.  The trotro station is located directly in the path of the new interchange and will therefore need to be situated elsewhere to enable work to progress on the new development. Early this week, graders and bulldozers leveled the plot of land that has come to symbolize the hub of cheap transport in Accra.

The trotro drivers and their unions have long been consulted and briefed on the need to pave way for ongoing works and are thus aware that the land they occupy will be forfeited. The drivers have therefore now created improvised trotro stations along the roads that adjoin the original station.

The Circle trotro Station belongs to the state and is managed by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly [local government] and has been in existence since the the 50s. It connects several passengers moving across the city ad from elsewhere.

Photos of the evacuation and how the drivers are adjusting below.

Asphalt markings on Accra Labone trotro route

The Labone trotro route to Labadi is being marked after asphalt laying over the past days. The right lane from Danquah second stop is usually closed to traffic from 10 PM. Trotro passengers tripping from Circle to Labadi and stopping alongway, will therefore have to alight at Danquah first stop, opposite the western entrance of the Police Hospital, and walk right towards Labone or alight mid way and cross right. From Danquah first , the trotro will make a detour to the left and and will therefore not stop at Danquah second stop, Bridge or Labone junction bus stop.

Some photos from the scene.

The Accra trotro station in front of Fraga oil has been reopened. It was closed temporary to allow Galvão Queiroz, the contractors working on the Nkrumah Circle ultra modern cloverleaf interchange, to lay giant sewers. So now trotro buses inbound from Osu, labadi, Nima and Kanda can alight passengers in front of the filling station and also continue in the right lane to Kaneshie.

Accra trotro drivers adjust to circle trotro station diversion

A video showing Accra trotro drivers managing the diversion at the Fraga  trotro station at the Nkrumah circle. The diversion required that passengers alight under the over head bridge and cross to the right lane. Kanehsie bound passengers could however continue their journey because the bus will share the left lane with oncoming vehicles till the right land reopens. The road in front of Obra spot then becomes a two lane instead of one.
