The new terminal can be found close t the Accra Magistrate courts, around the sub metro offices.

Telling from the heaps of sand in he image, it looks like construction is about to begin. The wooden fence is a protocol by Ghanaian contractors to seal off the work area from intruders, prevent snoopers from prying into whats going on and protect the privacy of the crew.

Accra trotro passengers tripping to locations served by this station would now have to detour to the Courts traffic lights, then turn right to find the boarding bay.

The Accra Kwame Nkrumah Kaneshie trotro station has changed for good. This morning, construction crew were busily seen erecting buildings at the section of the station that used to be the boarding bay for Circle – Kaneshie – Awoshie buses.  According to the new Kwame Nkrumah circle interchange plan, various amenities like day care centers, police stations,  clinics shops and other social infrastructure will be constructed in the area to serve motorists, traders and passengers. The government has a new policy of ensuring that any large scale construction does not deprive residents of any existing facilities, and where non-existent, new ones would have to be built.

In the photo above, the new houses are seen in the distance, and in the close up shot below, one can observe the walls of the building in grater detail.  Observe the Accra Kaneshie trotro buses park at the right hand side of the new houses.

Obra spot Accra finally evacuated
Obra spot Accra finally evacuated. The place has been fenced off. The buildings in the background are a restaurant and a photo service shop.

The Accra Circle Obra spot trotro station has been permanent evacuated.  Development works have begun at the location that became the iconic grounds for victory rallies, processions, demonstrations and a vibrant night life. By yesterday morning, excavation works had begun in what seems to be preparation for the construction of structures.

Obra Spot, a 200 meters plot of open land, served as  a trotro station for commuters traveling to the Eastern section of the City of Accra [Labadi, Tema, Osu,  Madina, Legon etc] , a night club and a transit point for travelers.

The name Obra Spot is derived from a TV comedy series in which the owner of the watery was an actor. The place is sometimes referred to as Maame Dokono park, in apparent reference to the role the proprietor played in the TV show.

Accra Circle interchange trotro station has been evacuated. The arc structure is part of the new clover leaf highway from Osu to Accra Central.

The Kwame Nkrumah interchange trotro station at Circle has been evacuated.  The trotro station is located directly in the path of the new interchange and will therefore need to be situated elsewhere to enable work to progress on the new development. Early this week, graders and bulldozers leveled the plot of land that has come to symbolize the hub of cheap transport in Accra.

The trotro drivers and their unions have long been consulted and briefed on the need to pave way for ongoing works and are thus aware that the land they occupy will be forfeited. The drivers have therefore now created improvised trotro stations along the roads that adjoin the original station.

The Circle trotro Station belongs to the state and is managed by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly [local government] and has been in existence since the the 50s. It connects several passengers moving across the city ad from elsewhere.

Photos of the evacuation and how the drivers are adjusting below.
