Christian Methodist Senior High School
A public secondary school with coeducational status, Christian Methodist Senior High School is situated in New Aplaku, in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. Two pupils died as a consequence of a fight between the school’s students and those of Ngleshie Amanfro Senior High School in March 2024. Rev. Gordon Nii Akwei Quaye,founded the school in September 1960.
The school’s original location was Asylum Down, close to the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, on rented property. In September 1965, the private institution was integrated into the public education system. The educational institution is coeducational.
Accra Academy
Located in Bubuashie, close to Kaneshie, in Ghana’s Greater Accra Region, Accra Academy is a boys’ high school. Both day students and boarders are welcome. Initially established as a private school in 1931, it was granted government funding in 1950. On the Gold Coast, it is the oldest privately founded high school currently in existence. A West African Senior School Certificate can be obtained by enrolling in courses in business, general science, agricultural science, general arts, and visual arts at this institution.
Accra Girls Senior High School
In Ghana’s Greater Accra Region sits Accra Girls Senior High institution, a second cycle institution open only to female pupils.. Upon completion of courses in commerce, general science, home economics, general arts, and visual arts, students are awarded a West African Senior High School Certificate. The Girls Senior High School in Accra The Community Education and Youth Development Directorate of the National Commission on Culture held a session at Accra Girls Senior High School to assist final-year students in getting ready for their WAEC exam.
Accra High School
On August 17, 1923, the late Rev. James Thomas Roberts established Accra High School. The school was situated on Beach Avenue in the Ghanaian district of Aayalolo, close to Accra. August 1924 saw the school celebrate its first anniversary with a religious service at Holy Trinity Cathedral in Accra. The late Dr. John Aglionby, the Anglican Bishop of Accra, preached the sermon. As a result, the Church of England and the school were tied. The school enrolled its first candidates for the College of Preceptors in 1924. In addition, it entered candidates for Pitman’s Shorthand Examinations in the United Kingdom, Cambridge University, and the Royal Society of Arts.
Kaneshie Senior High School
Kaneshie Senior High Technical School was founded in 1958 and in 1959, the school was integrated as a government-aided institution. The school, located west of the capital of Ghana, aspires to become a premier hub for secondary technical education in the nation, producing students with academic and moral excellence and preparing them for positions of high responsibility. It does this by offering a welcoming environment along with learner-centered instruction.
Wesley Grammar Senior High School
In Accra, Ghana, there is a well-known school called Wesley Grammar School.The establishment of schools in Ghana by Christian missionaries, especially those from the Methodist Church, in the early 1800s is when Wesley Grammar School first got its start. These educational institutions sought to uphold Christian principles while offering a Western-style education. One of the major missionary groups in Ghana, the Methodist Church, was essential to the founding of educational institutions. Wesleyan schools started popping up all over the nation, including elementary and secondary institutions.
St. Mary’s Senior High School
Sister Servants of the Holy Spirit, a group of Catholic missionary sisters, founded St. Mary’s Senior High School on February 6, 1950.Ten girls and two Reverend sisters—the late Reverend Sisters Jane and Rosette—staffed the school when it first opened. The purpose of this partnership is to foster intellectual growth amongst students from the two universities. Their partnership entails intellectual exchanges during social events and entertainment.
Labone Senior High School
Six distinguished sons of our nation saw the need to create an educational facility in 1949 to meet the requirements of the youth residing in and around Osu, Louisiana. Following Ghana’s independence, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the country’s first president, began a massive expansion of educational institutions, guided by his ambitious vision for the country’s rapid socioeconomic development. Because of this, the Ghana Education Trust Fund was established and given the responsibility of building schools around the nation, including in Labone.
St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School
A public day boys school founded in 1952 and is located in Accra’s Cantonments. It was set up to give boys in the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra an education in case their families could not afford to send them to residential institutions.
Odorgonno Senior High School
Odorgonno Senior High School is a senior high school located in Ghana. Nobis Nitendum est, which translates as “Ours is to Strive” in Latin, is its motto. 2,671 students and 183 employees, 53 of whom are non-teaching personnel, were enrolled as of 2017. The school’s intellectual brilliance was demonstrated on July 1st, 2023, when it defeated other prestigious institutions including Ashaiman SHS, Labone SHS, and Achimota School in the regional qualifiers of the National Science and Maths Quiz.
West Africa Senior High School
West Africa Senior High School is a second-cycle school in Ghana’s Greater Accra Region, situated in Adenta, east of the capital of Ghana. Emmanuel Addo and Rev. J. C. Tettey started the school in 1946. In 1946, the institution opened as the West Africa College of Commerce in Tudu. The school was incorporated as a Government-Assisted school into the public system in 1954.
Nungua Senior High School
In 1958, Nii Quaye Tawiah, also referred to as Quaye Nungua, a notable businessman and important descendant of Nungua, had the notion to open the town’s first secondary school. Master Enoch Otu Quaye, his 15-year-old son, was a Form 1 student at the Presbyterian Secondary School, Odumase Krobo, where he was being mentored by Mr. E. J. Klufio, the Headmaster. That same year, Master Quaye had to be called back home to be installed as a Chief of Nungua, or Nungua Mantse, with the stool name Nii Odai Ayiku IV. Due to the demands of his new position, the young chief would have to remain in Nungua in order to easily fulfill his chieftaincy responsibilities.
O’reilly Senior High School
Reputable secondary school O’Reilly Senior High School is situated in Okpoi-Gonno, Accra, Ghana’s Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipal District. Established in 1925 by Rev. Ezekiel Festus O’Reilly, an Anglican priest from Sierra Leone, the school has a distinguished academic legacy and a plethora of accomplished graduates. O’Reilly Senior High School is the fourth-oldest senior high school in Ghana overall and the second-oldest in the Greater Accra Region, behind Accra High School, Adisadel College, and Mfantsipim School.
Frafraha Community Day Senior
The school opened for business on November 11, 2016. July 11th, 2017 saw the official launch of the Board of Governors. Ebenezer Secondary School
In Ghana, Ebenezer Senior High School is a public high school that functions as a mixed, nondenominational institution. Situated in the Ablekuma West Municipal District of the Greater Accra Region of Ghana, it is near Dansoman in Mpoase. Robert Teiko Aryee established it as a private school on the Gold Coast of Ghana on April 22, 1941. In Ayalolo, Accra, he began the school with just six pupils in a room that also served as his home. In 1952, the school moved to Korle Gonno, and then it moved back to Mamprobi. Before the government took over and hired C.E.A. Martinson, R.T. Aryee and his nephew E.K.A. Otoo served as assistant headmaster and headmaster, respectively, at the school.
